Chapter 8

To a leper

3I will; be thou clean.

And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

4See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

Context Mat 8:1-4

In Capernaum, to the centurion

7I will come and heal him.

To them that followed

10Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. 11And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. 12But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

To the centurion

13Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee.

Context Mat 8:5-13

In Capernaum, to a certain scribe

20The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

22Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

Chapter 9

In Bethlehem, to a man sick of the palsy

2Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

In Bethlehem, to the scribes

4Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? 5For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? 6But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins,

To the sick of the palsy

Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

Context Mat 9:1-8

In Bethlehem, at the receipt of custom, to Matthew

9Follow me.

In Matthew’s house, to the Pharisees

12They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. 13But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Context Mat 9:9-13

In Bethlehem, to the disciples of John the Baptist

15Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast. 16No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. 17Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

Context Mat 9:14-17

On the streets of Bethlehem, to a woman with an issue of blood

22Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole.

24Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth.

Context Mat 9:18-26

To two blind men in a house

28Believe ye that I am able to do this?

29According to your faith be it unto you.

30See that no man know it.

In the cities and villages of Israel, to his disciples

37The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Heaven and earth shall passaway:
but my words shall not pass away
