Red Letter is Jesus’ words as recorded in the four Gospels, the Book of Acts, and Revelation (KJV). Jesus’ red letter words are preceded by grey commentary stating (a) the place where he spoke, and (b) to whom or of what he was speaking. Text in black is a complement to his words or actions.
Recognizing that the Father and the Holy Ghost are also God, and that their recorded statements are equally true, Red Letter includes their holy words. Their quoted words are bolded.
Chapter 1
At the baptism of Jesus, in the River Jordan after the Holy Ghost descended
The Father spoke
11Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
In Galilee, to the people
15The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
By the Sea of Galilee, to Simon and Andrew
17Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
18And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
In the synagogue at Capernaum, to an unclean spirit
25Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
In a solitary place, to his disciples
38Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.
In a Galilean synagogue, to a leper
41I will; be thou clean.
44See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Chapter 2
In a house at Capernaum, to one sick of palsy
5Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
In a house at Capernaum, to the scribes
8Why reason ye these things in your hearts? 9Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? 10But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins,
To the sick of the palsy
11I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
At the receipt of custom, to Levi
14Follow me.
In Levi’s house, to the scribes and Pharisees
17They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
18And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
19Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. 20But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. 21No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse. 22And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.
In the cornfield, on the Sabbath, to the Pharisees
25Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungered, he, and they that were with him? 26How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
27The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
